A delightful single storey traditional stone built converted blacksmiths, lovingly converted and restored to a high standard in 2012.
Fully centrally heated throughout the property, so cosy all year round.
The Old Smithy provides excellent self-catering accommodation, with stunning views over open countryside with Eden Water at the bottom of the garden.
The outdoor decking area with furniture is a great a place to relax during the daytime or evenings allowing you to take in the amazing views. (BBQ supplied)
We live in River Cottage opposite The Old Smithy so are on hand if you require any assistance during your stay.
The property is modern and stylish throughout displaying a wonderful blend of furnishings enhancing the original features of this old blacksmiths.
The hall has plenty of space to hang your coats, a shoe rack to store your outdoor footwear and pop on your slippers.
The open plan living room is spacious and light with 2 sets of French doors leading into the garden area, where you can sit on the decking area and enjoy the open views across to the Thomson Memorial, listening to the sound of Eden Water running at the bottom of the garden.
In the evening the lounge area becomes a warm and inviting space to sit and relax, with the flickering flame from the electric wood burner, music playing or playing a game or two, and of course finish off the evening with a wee dram. Pure bliss!
A wonderful social open plan kitchen and dining area which provides the perfect space to dine. The SMEG stainless steel range cooker is perfect to prepare that special meal together. You don't need to worry about washing up as there is a dishwasher, so you can sit and relax.
King-size bedroom with plenty of space to store your items along with an en-suite with a Walk- in shower cubicle.
Double Bedroom - Consist of a comfy double bed, double wardrobe, drawers and bedside table
The Family bedroom is a very large spacious room, consisting of a double and a single bed, ideal as a family room.
There is a triple wardrobe, drawers and a bedside table.
The main bathroom consists of a bath (for those guests who like a soak at the end of the day) with an over bath shower, designed to create an ideal combination for those guests who prefer a shower.
Too many times rental properties are never a home from home, a bit worn and shabby with cheap and sparse kitchen facilities or random odd furniture. Not here. The quality of the accommodation is as high quality as the friendly welcome from Gail and Adrian. We had a fabulous time. Highly recommend.
Just returned home from our second visit to The Old Smithy Cottage. This cottage never disappoints and is a wonderful place to stay and visit the Scottish Borders. Adrian and Gail are the perfect hosts and have thought of everything to truly make this a “home from home.” The decor and furnishings are impeccable and the thoughtful extras provided on arrival make the stay all the more enjoyable and memorable. Highly recommend a visit!
The Old Smithy is a fantastic place to stay. Well equipped and comfortable accommodation, maintained to a high standard, and the ideal location to get to numerous locations and attractions. Gail and Adrian are the perfect hosts with all the little extra touches making the stay perfect. They even went above and beyond when we needed a wheelchair, which they managed to source quickly for us - as I said before perfect hosts! ❤ x
Fabulous place to stay. Always a warm welcome from Adrian & Gail who have thought of everything to make your stay perfect. Beautiful well equipped cottage, decorated to a very high standard set in a lovely location. Cannot fault it. Definitely recommend. Great base to explore the Scottish Borders.
Absolutely beautiful place to stay. Immaculately clean, everything is high quality and accommodation is very spacious. All you could need and more! The hosts are just wonderful and go above and beyond to make your stay special. We had the most amazing break with family. EXCELLENT!
