Eco-Friendly accommodation

With environmental issues becoming increasingly prevalent, we all need to adapt to become more sustainable, including owners of holiday homes.

Here are 8 changes that we have done to make The Old Smithy more eco-friendly.

  1. Invested in energy efficient appliances when they need replacing
  2. Energy saving light bulbs throughout the property
  3. Eco Friendly Cleaning/Toiletries with refillable bottles
  4. Recycling (compost bin)
  5. Save Water (water butts attached to our sheds to water the plants in the garden
  6. Welcome Pack - items bought locally either from the farm or local independent shops
  7. Provide reusable shopping bags - material shopping bags available for your use
  8. Public transportation information - local bike hire, walking maps, train and bus timetables

The bonus of implementing many of these changes is that, not only are we doing our bit towards the environment, but we hope it gives our guests the reassurance that we are responsible holiday home owners.

Charging of Electric Vehicles: We do not have an electric car charging facility at the property. Using an extension cable to plug into the domestic socket in the property is NOT PERMITTED as there is an increased risk of fire and will invalidate our insurance. There is an electric charging point in Kelso Square.

Testimonial 1

Too many times rental properties are never a home from home, a bit worn and shabby with cheap and sparse kitchen facilities or random odd furniture. Not here. The quality of the accommodation is as high quality as the friendly welcome from Gail and Adrian. We had a fabulous time. Highly recommend.

Adrian and Gail are the perfect hosts and have thought of everything to truly make this a “home from home.” The decor and furnishings are impeccable and the thoughtful extras provided on arrival make the stay all the more enjoyable and memorable. The Old Smithy is a fantastic place to stay. Well equipped and comfortable accommodation, maintained to a high standard, and the ideal location to get to numerous locations and attractions. Gail and Adrian are the perfect hosts with all the little extra touches making the stay perfect. They even went above and beyond when we needed a wheelchair, which they managed to source quickly for us - as I said before perfect hosts! ❤ x
